Ingredients
Broth
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1-inch piece ginger, sliced
- 1 garlic clove, smashed
- 1 star anise (optional)
- 1 tbsp fish sauce
Main
- 1 cup cooked chicken (shredded or sliced)
- 4 oz rice noodles
Garnishes
- Bean sprouts
- Basil leaves
- Lime wedges
- Chili slices
- Cilantro sprigs
Instructions
- Simmer Broth: In a pot, combine chicken broth, sliced ginger, smashed garlic, fish sauce, and star anise. Bring to a gentle simmer and let it cook for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse.
- Add Noodles and Chicken: Add the rice noodles and cooked shredded or sliced chicken to the simmering broth. Continue to simmer for an additional 3 to 4 minutes until the noodles are tender and the chicken is heated through.
- Remove Aromatics and Serve: Carefully remove the ginger slices, garlic clove, and star anise from the broth to avoid overpowering the soup. Ladle the soup into bowls.
- Garnish and Enjoy: Serve the pho with fresh bean sprouts, basil, lime wedges, chili slices, and cilantro on the side so each person can customize their bowl to taste.
Notes
- Using rotisserie chicken speeds up preparation and adds great flavor.
- For added depth, drizzle hoisin sauce or sriracha into your bowl.
- Adjust garnishes according to your preference for spice and freshness.
