Description
Tender beef tenderloin tips cooked in a rich and savory mushroom gravy, offering a luxurious yet simple comfort food perfect for both weeknight dinners and holiday meals.
Ingredients
Beef
- 1 lb beef tenderloin tips
Vegetables
- 2 cups mushrooms, sliced
- 1 onion, chopped
Liquids & Dairy
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 cup beef broth
- ½ cup cream or milk
Thickener & Seasoning
- 1 tbsp flour
- Salt & pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Brown the Beef: Heat butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef tenderloin tips and brown them on all sides until seared and cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside to keep warm.
- Sauté Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and sliced mushrooms. Cook, stirring occasionally, until both are soft and the onions are translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
- Make the Gravy: Sprinkle the flour evenly over the sautéed vegetables and stir continuously for about 1 minute to cook out the raw flour taste. Gradually pour in the beef broth while stirring to prevent lumps. Add the cream or milk, stir well, and let the mixture simmer until the gravy thickens, approximately 5-8 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Combine Beef and Gravy: Return the browned beef tips to the skillet with the mushroom gravy. Stir gently to coat the beef fully in the sauce. Warm through for 2-3 minutes to meld the flavors.
Notes
- Serve the beef tenderloin tips with mushroom gravy over creamy mashed potatoes or buttered egg noodles for a complete meal.
- For a lighter option, use milk instead of cream to reduce calories and fat.
- Ensure the beef broth is low sodium if controlling salt intake.
