Description

A soft and slightly sweet quick bread made with brown sugar and no yeast. This easy homemade bread comes together quickly and has a rich caramel-like flavor from the brown sugar, perfect for a simple breakfast or snack.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup brown sugar

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup melted butter or vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan to ensure the bread does not stick during baking.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and brown sugar until evenly combined to create a uniform dry mix.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the milk, egg, melted butter (or vegetable oil), and vanilla extract. Whisk these together until smooth.
  4. Combine Ingredients: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and gently mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix to keep the bread tender.
  5. Pour Batter: Transfer the batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it evenly.
  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool and Serve: Remove the bread from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy warm with butter or honey if desired.

Notes

  • Add cinnamon or chopped nuts to the batter for extra flavor and texture.
  • This bread is especially delicious served warm with a spread of butter or honey.
