Description

Thinly sliced chicken breast, seasoned and dried into crunchy chips or chewy jerky. This high-protein snack is perfect for meal prep and on-the-go eating, offering a flavorful and healthy alternative to traditional chips.

Ingredients

Chicken

  • Chicken breast, very thinly sliced – 300 grams (about 10.5 ounces)

Seasonings

  • Olive oil or cooking spray – 1 tablespoon
  • Paprika – 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Onion powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt – ½ teaspoon
  • Black pepper – ¼ teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven or Dehydrator: Preheat your oven to a low temperature between 90°C to 100°C (195°F to 210°F) or set up your dehydrator following manufacturer’s instructions to prepare for slow drying of the chicken slices.
  2. Season Chicken Slices: Lightly toss the thinly sliced chicken breasts with olive oil or cooking spray, then evenly coat them with paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper to infuse flavor throughout.
  3. Arrange on Rack: Lay the seasoned chicken slices out in a single layer on a wire rack placed over a baking tray. This setup allows for airflow around the chicken, facilitating even drying.
  4. Dry the Chicken: Place the rack into the preheated oven or dehydrator and dry for approximately 2½ to 3½ hours. Flip the slices halfway through the drying time to ensure even dehydration. Continue cooking until the chicken is fully dried and reaches your preferred texture—either crisp chips or chewy jerky.
  5. Cool Before Storing: Once dried, allow the chicken chips or jerky to cool completely at room temperature. This prevents condensation and preserves crispness before transferring to an airtight container for storage.

Notes

  • Store chicken chips or jerky in an airtight container to maintain freshness and texture.
  • Ensure chicken is thoroughly dried to prevent any risk of foodborne illness and enhance shelf life.
  • Use a wire rack to allow air circulation for even drying and crisp texture.
  • Adjust seasoning quantities to taste or try adding chili powder for extra heat.
