Description

A delicious Italian-American sandwich featuring crispy breaded chicken breasts topped with marinara sauce and melted mozzarella cheese, served on toasted hoagie rolls. Perfect for a comforting and hearty dinner.

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 2 boneless chicken breasts, halved
  • ½ cup flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • Salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning to taste
  • 2 tbsp butter

Assembly

  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 4 hoagie rolls

Instructions

  1. Bread the chicken: Season the halved chicken breasts with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. First dredge each piece in flour, shake off the excess, then dip into the beaten egg, and finally coat evenly with breadcrumbs.
  2. Pan-fry the chicken: Heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the breaded chicken and cook until golden brown and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes per side.
  3. Toast the hoagie rolls: Split the hoagie rolls and toast them lightly until crisp, either in a toaster oven or under the broiler.
  4. Assemble the sandwiches: Spread a generous layer of marinara sauce on the toasted rolls. Place the cooked chicken breasts on top, then sprinkle evenly with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  5. Broil to melt cheese: Place the assembled sandwiches under the broiler for 2-3 minutes, until the mozzarella is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, substitute pan-fried chicken with air-fried or baked chicken.
  • Add fresh basil leaves for an extra authentic Italian flavor.
  • Use homemade marinara sauce for enhanced taste and freshness.
  • Toasting the hoagie rolls adds a crunchy texture and prevents sogginess.
