Ingredients
Bread
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup milk
- ½ cup plain or vanilla yogurt (or sour cream)
- ½ cup vegetable oil or melted butter
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk)
Optional Topping
- Extra chocolate chips
- Powdered sugar dusting
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper to ensure easy removal of the bread after baking.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until evenly combined to ensure proper leavening and flavor distribution.
- Combine wet ingredients: In another bowl, mix the milk, yogurt (or sour cream), vegetable oil or melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth and well blended to create a moist batter.
- Combine wet and dry mixes: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently combine until just mixed. Be careful not to overmix to maintain a tender crumb texture in the bread.
- Fold in chocolate chips: Gently fold in the chocolate chips evenly throughout the batter, saving some for sprinkling on top if desired.
- Fill the pan and add topping: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle extra chocolate chips on top for added chocolatey goodness and visual appeal, if desired.
- Bake the bread: Bake in the preheated oven for 50–55 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out clean or with just a few moist crumbs attached.
- Cool the loaf: Remove the bread from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Do not overmix the batter to keep the bread tender and soft.
- Mini chocolate chips are recommended as they distribute more evenly throughout the bread.
- Store the bread at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate it for up to 5 days to maintain freshness.
- The bread freezes well for up to 2 months; wrap tightly before freezing and thaw before serving.
