Description
A classic chocolate marble bread with beautiful swirls of vanilla and rich chocolate batter. This moist, tender quick bread is easy to make and perfect for breakfast, dessert, or an afternoon treat.
Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
Wet Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup milk
- 2 tbsp hot water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9×5-inch loaf pan by greasing it well or lining it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until fully combined.
- Combine wet ingredients: In a large bowl, stir together the granulated sugar, melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and milk until the mixture is smooth and homogenous.
- Incorporate dry into wet: Add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients and gently stir just until combined to avoid overmixing, which can make the bread tough.
- Divide batter: Split the batter evenly into two separate bowls to prepare the vanilla and chocolate batters.
- Prepare chocolate batter: In one bowl, mix the unsweetened cocoa powder with the hot water until smooth. Stir this chocolate mixture thoroughly into one portion of the batter.
- Layer batters: Alternate spoonfuls of vanilla and chocolate batters into the prepared loaf pan to create layers.
- Create marble effect: Use a knife to gently swirl through the batters in the pan, blending them slightly to produce an attractive marble pattern without overmixing.
- Bake the bread: Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 50 to 60 minutes. Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool the bread: Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing. This ensures clean slices and enhances texture.
Notes
- Do not over-swirl the batters to maintain distinct and beautiful marble patterns.
- For a richer chocolate flavor, add chocolate chips to the chocolate batter before swirling.
- Let the bread cool completely before slicing for the best texture and clean slices.
