Ingredients
Dough
- 2 ¼ tsp yeast
- ¾ cup warm milk
- ¼ cup sugar
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup melted butter
- 3 cups flour
- ½ tsp salt
Filling
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- ¼ cup butter, softened
Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp milk
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, combine yeast, warm milk, and sugar. Let it rest for 5 minutes until frothy, indicating the yeast is active.
- Make Dough: In a large mixing bowl, mix in the egg, melted butter, flour, and salt with the yeast mixture. Knead the dough for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First Rise: Cover the dough and allow it to rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
- Prepare Filling and Shape Rolls: Roll the dough out into a rectangle on a floured surface. Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough, then sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture on top. Roll the dough tightly from the long edge and cut into 12 equal pieces.
- Second Rise: Place the rolls in a greased pan, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes until puffy.
- Bake: Preheat the oven to 350 °F (175 °C). Bake the rolls for 25 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
- Glaze: While the rolls are warm, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to make the glaze. Drizzle over the rolls before serving.
Notes
- Add cream cheese to the glaze for extra richness and tang.
- The dough can be made the night before and refrigerated; bake fresh rolls in the morning for convenience.
