Description

A simple, soft flatbread made with basic pantry ingredients. This quick, no-yeast bread cooks on the stovetop and is perfect for wraps, dipping, pizzas, or serving alongside soups and curries.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup plain yogurt (or milk)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  2. Add wet ingredients and form dough: Add the yogurt and olive oil to the dry mix and stir until a soft dough forms, ensuring everything is evenly incorporated.
  3. Knead dough: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for 1–2 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Divide and shape dough balls: Divide the dough into 6 equal pieces and roll each into a ball to prepare for rolling.
  5. Roll out flatbreads: Roll each dough ball into a thin circle approximately 6–7 inches in diameter for even cooking.
  6. Heat skillet: Preheat a dry skillet over medium-high heat to ensure it’s hot before cooking the flatbreads.
  7. Cook flatbreads: Place one flatbread at a time onto the skillet and cook for 1–2 minutes on each side until bubbles form and golden spots appear, ensuring they are cooked through without burning.
  8. Keep warm: Remove flatbreads from the skillet and keep them warm while cooking the remaining flatbreads to serve all fresh and hot.

Notes

  • Brush with melted butter or olive oil after cooking for extra flavor and softness.
  • Add herbs, garlic powder, or spices to the dough to customize flavors and add variety.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days to maintain freshness.
