Description

A festive pull-apart bread shaped like a Christmas tree and filled with fragrant basil pesto and cheesy layers of mozzarella and parmesan. This delightful appetizer is perfect for holiday gatherings and functions as a delicious centerpiece that invites everyone to share a warm, flavorful bite.

Ingredients

For the Dough

  • 1 batch pizza dough or bread dough (store-bought or homemade, about 500g)

For the Filling

  • 1/2 cup basil pesto
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese

For the Topping

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 190°C (375°F) to ensure it’s fully heated by the time your bread is ready to bake.
  2. Prepare Dough Strips: Roll out your pizza or bread dough on a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle. Cut the dough into strips of even width to create manageable pieces for layering.
  3. Assemble Layers: Spread a thin, even layer of basil pesto over each strip of dough. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella and grated parmesan cheese evenly on top of the pesto layer.
  4. Stack and Slice: Stack the pesto-covered dough strips on top of each other. Then, carefully cut this stack into sections or segments, which will later form the tree shape.
  5. Shape the Bread: Arrange these sections standing upright and slightly leaned together on a lined baking tray, shaping them to resemble a Christmas tree silhouette.
  6. Add Finishing Touches: Lightly brush the shaped dough with olive oil to add a golden shine when baked. Sprinkle garlic powder evenly over the top for enhanced aroma and flavor.
  7. Bake: Place in the preheated oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and cooked through with melted cheese between the layers.
  8. Serve Warm: Remove from oven and let cool slightly. Serve warm, optionally alongside marinara sauce for dipping to complement the flavors of the pesto and cheeses.

Notes

  • Serve with marinara sauce for a tasty dipping option.
  • This bread can be assembled ahead of time and baked just before serving to ensure freshness and warm, melty cheese.
