Description

French Dip Pull Apart Bread is a deliciously savory appetizer featuring a crusty bread loaf stuffed with tender roast beef and melted provolone or Swiss cheese. Brushed with a flavorful mixture of melted butter, garlic and onion powders, and Worcestershire sauce, then baked until golden and gooey. Served hot with warm beef broth for dipping, it’s perfect for sharing at gatherings or as a comforting snack.

Ingredients

Bread and Filling

  • 1 crusty bread loaf (such as sourdough or French bread)
  • 8 oz sliced roast beef
  • 8 oz provolone or Swiss cheese, sliced

Seasoning and Dipping Sauce

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth, warmed, for dipping

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) to prepare for baking the pull-apart bread.
  2. Score Bread: Cut the loaf in a crosshatch pattern—make diagonal cuts about 1 inch apart along the bread lengthwise and crosswise, being careful not to cut all the way through the bottom crust.
  3. Stuff Bread: Gently stuff the sliced roast beef and cheese into the cuts, distributing evenly to ensure each pull-apart bite is flavorful and cheesy.
  4. Prepare Butter Mixture: In a small bowl, combine melted butter with garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well to blend the seasonings.
  5. Brush Bread: Generously brush the butter mixture over the entire surface and into the cuts of the bread to infuse it with rich flavor as it bakes.
  6. Bake Wrapped: Wrap the stuffed and brushed bread loaf tightly in aluminum foil. Place it on a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes to heat through and melt the cheese.
  7. Bake Unwrapped: Carefully unwrap the foil and bake the bread an additional 10 minutes uncovered to crisp the crust and brown the cheese slightly.
  8. Serve: Serve the pull-apart bread hot with a bowl of warm beef broth on the side for dipping each savory piece.

Notes

  • Serve immediately after baking to enjoy the best texture and melty cheese.
  • For extra flavor, add caramelized onions into the bread cuts along with the beef and cheese before baking.
  • Leftovers can be reheated covered in foil to retain moisture.
