Description

This Hibiscus Lemonade is a vibrant and refreshing beverage that perfectly balances tartness and floral notes. Made by steeping dried hibiscus flowers and mixing with fresh lemon juice and sweetener, it offers a naturally beautiful red color and a delightful flavor ideal for warm days and special occasions.

Ingredients

Hibiscus Tea

  • 1 cup dried hibiscus flowers
  • 4 cups water (for steeping)

Lemonade Mixture

  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 45 lemons)
  • ½¾ cup sugar or honey (to taste)
  • 2 cups cold water (to dilute)

For Serving

  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon slices or mint, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Boil Water: Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan to prepare the base for the hibiscus tea.
  2. Steep Hibiscus: Remove the saucepan from heat and add 1 cup of dried hibiscus flowers. Cover and steep for 15–20 minutes until the liquid is deep red and fragrant.
  3. Strain Tea: Strain out the hibiscus flowers using a fine mesh strainer, then allow the hibiscus tea to cool slightly at room temperature.
  4. Sweeten Tea: Stir in ½ to ¾ cup of sugar or honey while the tea is still warm until fully dissolved, adjusting sweetness to your preference.
  5. Add Lemon and Water: Mix in 1 cup of fresh lemon juice and 2 cups of cold water to dilute and balance the flavors.
  6. Chill: Refrigerate the hibiscus lemonade for at least 1 hour to ensure it is well chilled and refreshing.
  7. Serve: Pour the lemonade over ice cubes and garnish with lemon slices or mint leaves for an attractive presentation and enhanced flavor, if desired.

Notes

  • Adjust the sweetness according to your taste, as hibiscus naturally has a tart flavor.
  • This lemonade can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • For a fizzy variation, replace the cold still water with sparkling water just before serving.
