Ingredients
Dough Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast
- 1 cup warm milk
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup melted butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
Flavorings
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh herbs (parsley, rosemary, or thyme)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or Parmesan)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, instant yeast, sugar, egg, melted butter, salt, and garlic powder. Stir until well mixed.
- Add Dry Ingredients and Flavorings: Gradually add the flour, then fold in the chopped herbs and shredded cheese to form a soft dough.
- Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8–10 minutes.
- First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Shape Rolls: Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal portions. Shape each portion into a ball and place them evenly spaced in a greased baking pan.
- Second Rise: Cover the pan and let the shaped rolls rise for another 30 minutes until puffy.
- Bake the Rolls: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 18–20 minutes or until golden brown on top.
- Optional Finishing Touch: After baking, brush the rolls with melted garlic butter for an extra burst of flavor, if desired. Serve warm.
Notes
- Brushing the rolls with melted garlic butter after baking enhances flavor and gives a beautiful sheen.
- You can customize the herbs and cheese based on your preference or what you have on hand.
- For softer crusts, wrap the warm rolls in a clean kitchen towel as they cool.
- Make sure milk is warm, not hot, to properly activate the yeast without killing it.
