Description

These Italian quesadillas combine crispy tortillas with melted mozzarella, marinara sauce, pepperoni (or sausage), and fresh herbs to create a mouthwatering fusion of Italian and Mexican flavors. Perfect for a quick meal, these quesadillas are both easy to make and incredibly satisfying. Whether you’re making them for lunch, dinner, or a snack, this unique twist on a classic dish will leave everyone craving more.

Ingredients

2 large flour tortillas

1/2 cup marinara sauce

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup sliced pepperoni or Italian sausage

1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Olive oil or butter for cooking

Instructions

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and lightly grease it with olive oil or butter.

  • Place one tortilla in the skillet and spread a thin layer of marinara sauce over it.

  • Sprinkle a generous amount of shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the sauce.

  • Layer the pepperoni or Italian sausage slices over the cheese.

  • Sprinkle with fresh basil, dried oregano, and garlic powder for added flavor.

  • Top with the second tortilla and press gently to hold everything together.

  • Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy, flipping carefully so the fillings don’t spill out.

  • Remove from the skillet and slice into wedges. Serve hot with extra marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  1. Vegetarian Version: Swap the pepperoni or sausage for sliced vegetables like bell peppers, mushrooms, or zucchini.
  2. Spicy Italian: Add red pepper flakes or jalapeños for an extra kick.
  3. Cheese Lovers: Use a combination of mozzarella and Parmesan for added depth of flavor.
  4. Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  5. Reheating: Reheat in a skillet or microwave for the best results, though the tortilla will lose some crispiness in the microwave.
