Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
Wet Ingredients
- 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil or melted butter
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Add-ins
- 3/4 cup chopped walnuts
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a standard loaf pan to prevent sticking.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and, if using, ground cinnamon to evenly distribute the leavening agents and spices.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together pure maple syrup, vegetable oil or melted butter, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until well blended and smooth.
- Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures: Add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients and stir gently until just combined to avoid overmixing which could make the bread dense.
- Incorporate Walnuts: Fold in the chopped walnuts evenly into the batter to add texture and flavor.
- Transfer Batter to Pan: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing the top with a spatula for an even bake.
- Bake the Bread: Bake in the preheated oven for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, indicating the bread is fully cooked.
- Cool Before Serving: Allow the bread to cool in the pan briefly before removing it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Use pure maple syrup, not pancake syrup, for the best authentic flavor.
- Lightly toast the walnuts before adding them to the batter for extra depth of flavor and crunch.
- Store the bread wrapped at room temperature for up to 3 days to maintain freshness.
