Description

My Favorite Easy Sandwich Bread is a soft, fluffy, and reliably delicious homemade white bread perfect for sandwiches, toast, or everyday use. Made from simple pantry ingredients, this bread yields a perfectly sliceable loaf with a tender crumb and a golden crust.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F / 43°C)
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let this mixture sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes foamy, indicating the yeast is active and ready.
  2. Mix Dough: Add softened butter, salt, and 2 cups of the all-purpose flour to the yeast mixture. Stir together until combined and smooth.
  3. Add Remaining Flour: Gradually incorporate the remaining flour into the dough mixture, stirring continuously until a soft, cohesive dough forms.
  4. Knead Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic, developing good gluten structure.
  5. First Rise: Place the kneaded dough in a large greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  6. Shape Dough: After the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release air. Shape the dough into a loaf and place it into a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  7. Second Rise: Cover the loaf pan and let the dough rise again for 30–40 minutes, until the dough has risen just above the top of the pan.
  8. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the bread for 30–35 minutes until the crust turns golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
  9. Cool: Remove the bread from the pan and allow it to cool completely on a wire rack before slicing to ensure the best texture.

Notes

  • Brushing the top with melted butter after baking helps keep the crust soft and adds a subtle richness.
  • Allow the bread to cool completely before slicing to avoid a gummy texture.
  • Store the bread at room temperature in an airtight bag or container for up to 3 days to maintain freshness.
