Description
My Favorite Easy Sandwich Bread is a soft, fluffy, and reliably delicious homemade white bread perfect for sandwiches, toast, or everyday use. Made from simple pantry ingredients, this bread yields a perfectly sliceable loaf with a tender crumb and a golden crust.
Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 ½ tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F / 43°C)
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let this mixture sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes foamy, indicating the yeast is active and ready.
- Mix Dough: Add softened butter, salt, and 2 cups of the all-purpose flour to the yeast mixture. Stir together until combined and smooth.
- Add Remaining Flour: Gradually incorporate the remaining flour into the dough mixture, stirring continuously until a soft, cohesive dough forms.
- Knead Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic, developing good gluten structure.
- First Rise: Place the kneaded dough in a large greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- Shape Dough: After the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release air. Shape the dough into a loaf and place it into a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- Second Rise: Cover the loaf pan and let the dough rise again for 30–40 minutes, until the dough has risen just above the top of the pan.
- Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the bread for 30–35 minutes until the crust turns golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
- Cool: Remove the bread from the pan and allow it to cool completely on a wire rack before slicing to ensure the best texture.
Notes
- Brushing the top with melted butter after baking helps keep the crust soft and adds a subtle richness.
- Allow the bread to cool completely before slicing to avoid a gummy texture.
- Store the bread at room temperature in an airtight bag or container for up to 3 days to maintain freshness.
