Description
A flavorful one-pot beef and rice pilaf combining tender beef sirloin, fragrant basmati rice, and aromatic spices, simmered together for a simple, hearty, and satisfying all-in-one meal perfect for weeknight dinners.
Ingredients
Beef and Rice Pilaf Ingredients
- 1½ lb beef sirloin or stew meat, cubed
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1½ cups basmati rice
- 3 cups beef broth
- 1 tsp paprika
- ½ tsp cumin
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Brown the Beef: Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add the cubed beef and cook until it is browned and golden on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. This step seals in the juices and develops deep flavor.
- Sauté Aromatics: Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the pot with the beef. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion softens and becomes translucent, about 3-4 minutes, releasing their fragrant aroma.
- Add Rice and Spices: Stir in the basmati rice along with paprika and cumin. Mix well to evenly coat the rice and meat with the spices, allowing the rice to lightly toast for about 1-2 minutes.
- Pour in Broth and Simmer: Pour the beef broth into the pot and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid, and let it simmer gently for 20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and has absorbed the broth.
- Rest and Fluff: Remove the pot from heat and let it rest, still covered, for 5 minutes. This resting period allows the rice to finish steaming. Then, fluff the pilaf gently with a fork before serving to separate the grains and blend the flavors.
Notes
- For variation, add peas or raisins along with the rice to introduce sweetness or extra texture.
- This dish works well as leftovers and can be reheated easily on the stovetop or microwave.
