Description

Tender, juicy oven BBQ chicken baked to perfection with a sweet and smoky barbecue sauce. This easy-to-make recipe combines simple seasoning and baking techniques, delivering a flavorful and comforting dish perfect for busy weeknights or relaxed family dinners.

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 46 chicken pieces (breasts, thighs, or drumsticks)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Seasoning

  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

Sauce

  • 1 cup barbecue sauce (your favorite brand or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet or baking dish with foil and lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Chicken: Pat the chicken pieces dry thoroughly with paper towels to remove excess moisture, then arrange them evenly in the baking dish.
  3. Season Chicken: Drizzle olive oil over the chicken pieces to help the seasoning stick, then evenly sprinkle salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika to coat all sides.
  4. First Bake: Bake the seasoned chicken uncovered for 20 minutes to begin cooking and developing flavor.
  5. Apply Barbecue Sauce: Remove the chicken from the oven and generously brush the barbecue sauce all over to infuse sweetness and smokiness.
  6. Second Bake: Return the chicken to the oven and continue baking for another 15–20 minutes. Halfway through this time, brush more barbecue sauce onto the chicken. Cook until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C), ensuring it is fully cooked.
  7. Optional Broil: For extra caramelized edges, broil the chicken for 2–3 minutes at the end of baking, watching carefully to avoid burning.
  8. Rest: Remove from the oven and let the chicken rest for 5 minutes to allow juices to redistribute before serving.

Notes

  • Bone-in chicken pieces stay juicier and may require a slightly longer cooking time to reach safe internal temperature.
  • Line the pan well with foil as barbecue sauce tends to caramelize and stick to the baking surface.
  • This dish pairs wonderfully with coleslaw, corn on the cob, or roasted potatoes for a complete meal.
