Description
Soft, fragrant sweet rolls filled with crunchy pistachios and warm cardamom, these Pistachio Cardamom Rolls are perfect for a delightful brunch, holiday treat, or cozy morning indulgence.
Ingredients
Dough:
- 2½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1 large egg
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 packet (2¼ tsp) active dry yeast
- ½ tsp salt
Filling:
- ½ cup pistachios, chopped
- 2 tbsp softened unsalted butter
- 1 tsp ground cardamom
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
Instructions
- Prepare the dough: In a large bowl, combine the warm milk and yeast, allowing it to activate for about 5 minutes until frothy. Add the sugar, egg, melted butter, salt, and flour. Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First rise: Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Roll out the dough: Once risen, roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle approximately 12×18 inches.
- Add the filling: Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough, then sprinkle the chopped pistachios, brown sugar, and ground cardamom evenly on top.
- Form the rolls: Starting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Slice the log into 12 equal rolls and place them evenly spaced in a greased baking pan.
- Second rise: Cover the rolls and let them rise for 20 minutes until puffy.
- Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20–22 minutes or until golden brown on top and cooked through.
- Optional finishing touch: Once cooled slightly, drizzle the rolls with your favorite icing or glaze for an added sweetness.
Notes
- Add orange zest to the filling for a bright, festive twist.
- The rolls can be made ahead of time; after shaping, cover and refrigerate overnight. Allow them to come to room temperature before the second rise and baking.
- Store leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze them for longer storage.
