Description

A delicious balance of tart, sweet, and savory, these Apple and Cheddar Crostini are an elegant yet easy appetizer perfect for holiday gatherings or casual snacking.

Ingredients

Bread

  • 1 baguette, sliced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Toppings

  • 1 large apple, thinly sliced
  • 4 oz sharp white cheddar, sliced
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for toasting the crostini and melting the cheese.
  2. Toast Bread: Brush the sliced baguette pieces with olive oil evenly on both sides and arrange them on a baking sheet. Toast them in the oven for 8–10 minutes until they become crisp and golden.
  3. Add Toppings: Remove the toasted bread from the oven and carefully top each slice with a slice of sharp white cheddar cheese followed by a thin slice of apple.
  4. Melt Cheese: Return the topped bread slices to the oven and bake for an additional 3–5 minutes until the cheddar cheese melts slightly and releases its savory aroma.
  5. Finish and Serve: Drizzle each crostini with honey to add sweetness and, if desired, sprinkle fresh thyme leaves on top to add an herbal note. Serve warm for the best flavor experience.

Notes

  • Try pear slices as an alternative to apple for a different fruity flavor.
  • Use fig jam instead of honey for a unique sweet variation that pairs wonderfully with cheddar.
