Description
A delicious balance of tart, sweet, and savory, these Apple and Cheddar Crostini are an elegant yet easy appetizer perfect for holiday gatherings or casual snacking.
Ingredients
Bread
- 1 baguette, sliced
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Toppings
- 1 large apple, thinly sliced
- 4 oz sharp white cheddar, sliced
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp fresh thyme (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for toasting the crostini and melting the cheese.
- Toast Bread: Brush the sliced baguette pieces with olive oil evenly on both sides and arrange them on a baking sheet. Toast them in the oven for 8–10 minutes until they become crisp and golden.
- Add Toppings: Remove the toasted bread from the oven and carefully top each slice with a slice of sharp white cheddar cheese followed by a thin slice of apple.
- Melt Cheese: Return the topped bread slices to the oven and bake for an additional 3–5 minutes until the cheddar cheese melts slightly and releases its savory aroma.
- Finish and Serve: Drizzle each crostini with honey to add sweetness and, if desired, sprinkle fresh thyme leaves on top to add an herbal note. Serve warm for the best flavor experience.
Notes
- Try pear slices as an alternative to apple for a different fruity flavor.
- Use fig jam instead of honey for a unique sweet variation that pairs wonderfully with cheddar.
