Ingredients
Beef Marinade
- 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
Vegetables
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 cup broccoli florets
- 1 cup snap peas
- 1 carrot, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
Stir Fry Sauce
- ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tbsp beef broth
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil (for cooking, divided)
Instructions
- Marinate Beef: In a bowl, toss the thinly sliced beef with 2 tablespoons of soy sauce and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. Let it marinate for 15 minutes to tenderize and flavor the meat.
- Prepare Sauce: Whisk together ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce, 2 tablespoons beef broth, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, 1 tablespoon oyster sauce, and 1 teaspoon sesame oil in a small bowl. Set aside the flavorful stir fry sauce.
- Cook Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the marinated beef and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring frequently, until browned but not fully cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
- Stir Fry Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the sliced red bell pepper, broccoli florets, snap peas, and carrot. Stir fry the vegetables for about 4 to 5 minutes until they are tender-crisp.
- Add Aromatics: Add the minced garlic and grated fresh ginger to the vegetables in the skillet. Cook for an additional 30 seconds to release their aroma and flavor.
- Combine Beef and Sauce: Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the vegetables. Pour in the prepared stir fry sauce and toss everything together to coat evenly.
- Finish Cooking: Cook for another 2 to 3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens slightly and the beef is cooked through.
- Serve: Serve the beef stir fry hot, ideally over steamed rice or noodles to complete your meal.
Notes
- Slice beef against the grain for maximum tenderness.
- Add mushrooms, zucchini, or baby corn to the stir fry for variety and extra nutrition.
- Use low-sodium soy sauce to control salt levels without sacrificing flavor.
- If you prefer a spicier dish, add red pepper flakes or a splash of chili sauce when cooking garlic and ginger.
