Ingredients
For the Donuts
- 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
- ⅓ cup (30g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup (120ml) milk
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Chocolate Glaze
- 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2–3 tablespoons milk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s at the right temperature for baking the donuts evenly.
- Prepare Donut Pan: Lightly grease your donut pan to prevent the donuts from sticking and enable easy removal after baking.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt to evenly distribute all dry ingredients.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the large egg, milk, melted unsalted butter, and vanilla extract until fully combined.
- Combine Ingredients: Add the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined to maintain a tender donut texture; avoid overmixing.
- Fill Donut Pan: Transfer the batter into a piping bag or use a zip-top bag with the corner cut off to pipe the batter neatly into the donut cavities, filling each about three-quarters full.
- Bake Donuts: Bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes, or until the donuts spring back when lightly touched, indicating they are cooked through.
- Cool Donuts: Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Prepare Glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and glossy for the chocolate glaze.
- Glaze Donuts: Dip the cooled donuts into the chocolate glaze, then set aside to let the glaze firm up before serving.
Notes
- Avoid overmixing the batter to keep the donuts tender and light.
- Add chocolate sprinkles on top of the glaze for a fun and decorative finish.
- Store leftover donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days to maintain freshness.
