Description
Nothing beats a refreshing glass of homemade Classic Lemonade. Made with freshly squeezed lemons, water, and a touch of sweetness, this timeless drink is perfect for hot summer days, picnics, barbecues, or any occasion that calls for a cool and citrusy refreshment.
Ingredients
Simple Syrup
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
Lemonade
- 1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 4–6 lemons)
- 4 cups cold water
- Ice cubes, for serving
- Lemon slices, for garnish
- Fresh mint leaves, optional
Instructions
- Make the Simple Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and 1 cup of water. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar completely dissolves. Remove from heat and allow the syrup to cool to room temperature.
- Combine Lemon Juice and Syrup: In a large pitcher, pour in the freshly squeezed lemon juice and add the cooled simple syrup. Stir to mix thoroughly.
- Add Remaining Water: Pour in the remaining 4 cups of cold water into the pitcher and stir well to blend all ingredients evenly. Adjust sweetness or tartness by adding more sugar or lemon juice if desired.
- Chill: Refrigerate the lemonade until it is thoroughly chilled, ideally for at least 1-2 hours before serving for best flavor.
- Serve and Garnish: Serve the lemonade over ice cubes. Garnish each glass with lemon slices and fresh mint leaves if using, for a refreshing presentation.
Notes
- For a less sweet lemonade, reduce the sugar to ¾ cup.
- Add sparkling water just before serving for a fizzy version.
- Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- Freshly squeezed lemon juice provides the best flavor.
