Description

Creamy Gochujang Pasta is a delicious fusion dish that combines the creamy richness of traditional pasta with the bold, spicy, and slightly sweet flavors of Korean gochujang sauce. This recipe offers a comforting yet flavorful meal perfect for those who love a touch of spice in their creamy dishes.

Ingredients

Pasta

  • 200 g pasta

Sauce

  • 1 tbsp butter or olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp gochujang
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup pasta water
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Garnish

  • 1 green onion, sliced

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta: Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve about 1/4 cup of the pasta cooking water before draining the pasta.
  2. Sauté garlic: In a pan, heat the butter or olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes, being careful not to burn it.
  3. Add gochujang: Stir in the gochujang and cook briefly for about 30 seconds to release its flavors.
  4. Make the sauce: Pour in the heavy cream and mix well to combine with the gochujang and garlic.
  5. Simmer: Add the reserved pasta water to the pan and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Toss pasta in sauce: Add the cooked pasta to the pan and toss thoroughly to coat each strand with the creamy, spicy sauce.
  7. Finish with cheese: Stir in the grated parmesan cheese until the sauce becomes creamy and smooth.
  8. Season and garnish: Season with salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with sliced green onions before serving.

Notes

  • Adjust the spice level by increasing or decreasing the amount of gochujang according to your preference.
  • For added protein or vegetables, consider adding cooked chicken, shrimp, or sautéed vegetables.
  • Use olive oil instead of butter for a dairy-free alternative, but note it will change the flavor slightly.
  • Reserve pasta water helps to loosen the sauce and improve its texture.
