Description

Deer Valley’s Famous Turkey Chili is a hearty, flavorful dish made with lean ground turkey, kidney and black beans, diced tomatoes, and a blend of warm spices. Inspired by the popular recipe from Deer Valley Resort, this chili is perfect for cozy dinners and meal prep, delivering comforting, protein-packed goodness in every bowl.

Ingredients

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Beans and Liquids

  • 1 can kidney beans, drained
  • 1 can black beans, drained
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups chicken broth

Spices and Oil

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the turkey: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the ground turkey and cook, stirring occasionally, until fully browned and no longer pink.
  2. Sauté aromatics: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot with the browned turkey. Cook, stirring frequently, until the onion is softened and translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add spices: Stir in the chili powder, cumin, and paprika. Cook the mixture for about 1 minute to toast the spices and bring out their flavor.
  4. Combine main ingredients: Add the drained kidney beans, black beans, diced tomatoes (with juices), and chicken broth to the pot. Stir well to combine.
  5. Simmer the chili: Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low to maintain a simmer. Cook uncovered for 25–30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking and to let flavors meld.
  6. Season and serve: Taste the chili and season with salt and pepper according to your preference. Serve hot, optionally topped with cheese, sour cream, or avocado.

Notes

  • Top with cheese, sour cream, or avocado for added creaminess and flavor.
  • Adjust the spice level by adding cayenne pepper if you prefer more heat.
  • This chili tastes even better the next day after the flavors have melded together overnight.
