Ingredients
Base Ingredients
- 1/2 cup rice
- 6 cups water or broth
Protein
- 100 g chicken, sliced
- 100 g shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 100 g fish fillet, cut into pieces
Flavors & Seasonings
- 1 tbsp ginger, sliced
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- Salt and white pepper to taste
- Green onions for garnish
Instructions
- Rinse Rice and Cook: Thoroughly rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Add the rinsed rice and 6 cups of water or broth to a large pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer, stirring occasionally until the rice becomes soft and the porridge reaches a creamy consistency, about 30 minutes.
- Add Ginger and Chicken: Stir in the sliced ginger and chicken pieces into the simmering congee. Continue to cook gently until the chicken is nearly cooked through, about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to infuse the porridge.
- Add Seafood: Add the shrimp and fish fillet pieces to the pot. Cook for another 5-7 minutes until the seafood is just cooked through and tender. Avoid overcooking to maintain a delicate texture.
- Season the Congee: Stir in the soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and white pepper to taste. Mix well to combine all flavors evenly throughout the porridge.
- Simmer and Garnish: Let the congee simmer for an additional minute to meld the flavors. Remove from heat, ladle into bowls, and garnish with freshly chopped green onions. Serve hot for a comforting and flavorful meal.
Notes
