Description

Homemade Crunchwraps are a crispy and flavorful handheld meal featuring seasoned ground beef, creamy cheese, crunchy tostada shells, fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and a tangy sauce wrapped inside a warm flour tortilla. This easy stovetop recipe offers a fun and customizable alternative to restaurant-style crunchwraps, perfect for family dinners or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Meat and Seasoning

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1/4 cup water (for taco seasoning)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Wrap and Fillings

  • 4 large flour tortillas
  • 4 small tostada shells (or small crispy corn tortillas)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup nacho cheese sauce
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 medium tomato, diced
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion

Cooking

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking)

Instructions

  1. Brown the beef: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add the ground beef. Cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until fully browned and no pink remains. Drain excess grease if needed.
  2. Season the beef: Stir in taco seasoning and 1/4 cup water. Cook and simmer according to seasoning packet instructions until the mixture thickens and is well blended. Adjust salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat.
  3. Prepare tortillas: Warm the large flour tortillas briefly in a microwave or on a skillet to make them flexible and easy to fold.
  4. Assemble the crunchwraps: Place a warm tortilla on a flat surface. Spoon a portion of seasoned beef in the center, then drizzle with nacho cheese sauce. Lay a tostada shell on top of the beef. Spread sour cream evenly over the tostada shell, then add shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, onions, and shredded cheddar cheese.
  5. Fold the wrap: Carefully fold the edges of the large tortilla toward the center, overlapping the edges to seal the fillings inside and form a round wrap.
  6. Cook the crunchwraps: Heat the skillet over medium heat and add a little olive oil if desired. Place the crunchwrap seam-side down in the hot skillet. Cook until the bottom is golden brown and crisp, then carefully flip and cook the other side until it is equally browned and crispy.
  7. Repeat and serve: Repeat the assembly and cooking process with the remaining tortillas and fillings. Serve the crunchwraps immediately while hot and crisp.

Notes

  • Substitute ground beef with shredded chicken, ground turkey, or seasoned beans for variety.
  • Add jalapeños, guacamole, corn, or black beans to customize flavors and textures.
  • Use Pepper Jack cheese or spicy queso sauce for a spicier option.
  • Store leftover cooked beef and toppings separately in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Fully assembled crunchwraps are best eaten fresh since the tostada shell can soften over time.
  • Reheat assembled crunchwraps in a dry skillet or air fryer to restore crispness.
  • Large flour tortillas work best for folding; avoid corn tortillas as they break easily.
