Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 3½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2¼ tsp active dry yeast
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1¼ cups warm water
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let the mixture stand for 5–10 minutes until it becomes foamy, indicating the yeast is active.
- Combine Ingredients: Add the olive oil, all-purpose flour, and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until a shaggy dough begins to form.
- Knead Dough: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- First Rise: Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover it with a clean towel or plastic wrap. Allow it to rise in a warm place for 1 to 1½ hours, or until it has doubled in size.
- Shape Dough: Punch down the dough to release excess air. Divide the dough into portions as desired and roll or stretch each into pizza shapes.
- Add Toppings: Top your shaped dough with your favorite ingredients.
- Bake Pizza: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Bake the prepared pizza for 10–15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and crisp.
Notes
- Using bread flour instead of all-purpose flour creates a chewier crust.
- Refrigerate the dough overnight to develop enhanced flavor.
- This recipe yields enough dough for two medium pizzas or one large pizza.
