Description

This homemade pizza dough is soft, chewy, and easy to work with, creating the perfect base for all your favorite pizza toppings. Whether you’re making a classic Margherita or a loaded veggie pizza, this dough delivers pizzeria-quality results at home with a simple and straightforward process.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 3½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1¼ cups warm water
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it stand for 5–10 minutes until it becomes foamy, indicating the yeast is active.
  2. Mix Ingredients: Add the olive oil, all-purpose flour, and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir together until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it for 8–10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic, which helps develop gluten for a chewy texture.
  4. First Rise: Place the kneaded dough into a lightly oiled bowl and cover it. Allow it to rise in a warm place for 1 to 1½ hours, or until it doubles in size.
  5. Divide and Shape: Punch down the risen dough to release air, then divide it as desired. Roll or stretch each portion into pizza shapes.
  6. Add Toppings and Bake: Top with your favorite pizza toppings. Bake the pizza in a preheated oven at 475°F (245°C) for 10–15 minutes until the crust is golden and crisp.

Notes

  • Using bread flour instead of all-purpose flour will create a chewier crust.
  • Refrigerate the dough overnight to enhance its flavor and texture.
  • This recipe makes enough dough for two medium pizzas or one large pizza.
