Description
A moist and slightly sweet honey cornbread with a golden crust—perfect as a side for any meal. This simple, easy-to-make cornbread combines the natural sweetness of honey with the hearty texture of cornmeal, creating a delicious addition to soups, chili, or any main course.
Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup milk
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1/4 cup honey
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and grease a baking dish to prevent the cornbread from sticking.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine cornmeal, all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir well to evenly distribute the ingredients.
- Prepare Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, melted butter, and honey until fully combined and smooth.
- Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients bowl. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overmix to keep the cornbread tender.
- Pour Batter into Pan: Transfer the batter into the greased baking dish, spreading evenly to fill the pan.
- Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the cornbread to cool slightly before slicing to avoid crumbling. Serve warm, optionally drizzling additional honey on top for extra sweetness.
Notes
- Drizzle extra honey on top before serving for added sweetness.
- This cornbread pairs wonderfully with soups, chili, or as a comforting side dish to any meal.
- For a richer flavor, you can substitute milk with buttermilk if desired.
