Description
These Grilled Chicken Drumsticks are juicy, flavorful, and perfectly charred on the outside. Coated in a savory seasoning blend and grilled until tender, they make an easy weeknight dinner or crowd-pleasing barbecue favorite.
Ingredients
Chicken
- 8 chicken drumsticks
Seasoning
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper, optional
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Prepare the chicken: Pat the chicken drumsticks dry with paper towels to ensure the seasoning adheres well and for even cooking.
- Mix the seasoning: In a small bowl, combine olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper if using, and lemon juice to create a flavorful marinade.
- Marinate the drumsticks: Rub the seasoning mixture evenly over each chicken drumstick. Allow them to marinate for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors penetrate, or refrigerate up to 8 hours for deeper flavor.
- Preheat the grill: Set your grill to medium heat, approximately 375–400°F (190–200°C), ensuring it’s ready for cooking the chicken evenly.
- Grill the chicken: Place the drumsticks on the grill and cook for 25–30 minutes. Turn them every few minutes to develop an even, charred exterior and prevent burning.
- Check doneness: Use a meat thermometer to ensure the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) at the thickest part for safe consumption.
- Rest before serving: Remove drumsticks from the grill and let them rest for 5 minutes. This helps retain juices and enhances tenderness before serving.
Notes
- Keep the grill at medium heat to prevent the outside from burning before the chicken is fully cooked.
- For extra smoky flavor, add a little more smoked paprika to the seasoning blend.
- Always check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer to ensure safety and optimal juiciness.
- Serve with grilled vegetables, coleslaw, potato salad, or corn on the cob for a complete meal.
