Description
Juicy grilled chicken skewers marinated in a savory, slightly sweet Korean-style sauce, perfect for BBQs or quick dinners. These flavorful skewers combine tender chicken with a balance of spicy gochujang, sweet honey, and aromatic sesame oil for an irresistible meal.
Ingredients
Chicken and Marinade
- 500 g chicken thighs or breast, cut into cubes
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 tbsp honey or sugar
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp grated ginger
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil (for grilling)
- Skewers (wooden or metal)
Instructions
- Prepare the marinade: In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, gochujang, honey (or sugar), sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Mix thoroughly to create a flavorful marinade.
- Marinate the chicken: Add the cubed chicken thighs or breast to the marinade, ensuring all pieces are evenly coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to absorb the flavors.
- Thread onto skewers: Soak wooden skewers in water beforehand if using. Thread the marinated chicken pieces onto the skewers evenly, leaving a small gap between each piece for even cooking.
- Preheat grill or pan: Heat your grill or a heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Brush with vegetable oil to prevent sticking.
- Cook the chicken skewers: Place the skewers on the grill or in the pan. Cook for 10–12 minutes, turning occasionally to ensure all sides are cooked through and nicely charred.
- Serve: Remove the skewers from heat and serve immediately while hot, perfect alongside rice or a fresh salad.
Notes
- Soak wooden skewers in water for at least 30 minutes before grilling to prevent burning.
- These skewers can also be cooked in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for 12-15 minutes or in an air fryer at 375°F (190°C) for 10 minutes.
- For extra smoky flavor, add a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds before serving.
- Adjust the amount of gochujang depending on your preferred spice level.
