Description

Fresh and flavorful Thai Basil Beef Rolls featuring seasoned ground beef wrapped in soft rice paper, perfect as a light and aromatic appetizer bursting with bold Southeast Asian flavors.

Ingredients

Beef Mixture

  • 250 g ground beef
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp fish sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp chili flakes
  • 1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves

Assembly

  • Rice paper wrappers

Instructions

  1. Cook the beef mixture: In a pan over medium heat, add the minced garlic and cook briefly until fragrant, then add the ground beef. Stir and cook the beef until fully browned and no longer pink.
  2. Season the beef: Add the soy sauce, fish sauce, sugar, and chili flakes to the browned beef. Stir to combine and cook for another 1-2 minutes to meld flavors, then remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly to make wrapping easier.
  3. Prepare rice paper wrappers: Fill a shallow dish with warm water. Dip each rice paper wrapper into the water for about 10-15 seconds until it softens but remains slightly firm, then lay it flat on a clean surface.
  4. Assemble the rolls: Place a small handful of the cooked beef mixture in the center of the softened rice paper. Add a few fresh Thai basil leaves on top of the filling for aroma and flavor.
  5. Roll tightly: Fold the sides of the rice paper over the filling and then roll from the bottom up, keeping the roll tight to ensure it holds together.
  6. Serve fresh: Arrange the rolls on a platter and serve immediately with your choice of dipping sauce such as sweet chili or peanut sauce.

Notes

  • Serve with dipping sauces like sweet chili sauce or peanut sauce for added flavor.
  • You can substitute ground beef with ground chicken or tofu to vary the protein.
  • Make sure not to over-soak rice paper wrappers as they can become too soft and tear easily.
  • For a spicier kick, increase chili flakes or add fresh chopped chili to the beef mixture.
