Description

Soft and fluffy cinnamon rolls infused with sweet and juicy strawberry pieces, complemented by a warm cinnamon and brown sugar filling. These strawberry cinnamon rolls are baked to golden perfection and topped with a rich glaze, making for a delightful fruity twist on a classic breakfast or dessert favorite.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

Filling

  • 1 cup chopped fresh or thawed and drained strawberries
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Glaze (optional)

  • Powdered sugar (to taste)
  • Milk or cream (to thin)
  • Vanilla extract (a few drops)

Instructions

  1. Activate yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let the mixture sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy, indicating the yeast is active.
  2. Make the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour with the melted butter and egg. Pour in the yeast mixture and stir until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. First rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for approximately 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  4. Prepare filling and roll dough: Roll out the risen dough on a floured surface into a large rectangle roughly 12×9 inches. Spread the chopped strawberries evenly over the dough, then sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture over the strawberries.
  5. Form rolls: Starting from the longer side, roll the dough tightly into a log. Using a sharp knife, cut the log into 8 equal rolls and place them cut-side up in a greased baking dish, spacing them slightly apart.
  6. Second rise: Cover the rolls loosely and let them rise again for 20 minutes until puffy.
  7. Bake: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the cinnamon rolls for 20 to 25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Glaze and serve: While warm, drizzle the rolls with a glaze made from powdered sugar mixed with a little milk and vanilla extract for sweetness and shine. Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Use fresh or frozen strawberries; if using frozen, thaw and drain thoroughly to prevent excess moisture and sogginess.
  • Avoid overfilling the rolls with strawberries to prevent leaking during baking.
  • For a richer flavor, consider brushing the rolls with melted butter right after baking.
  • Glaze is optional but highly recommended for added sweetness and moisture.
