Ingredients
Oatmeal Base
- 2 cups rolled oats
- 4 cups milk or unsweetened almond milk
- Pinch of salt
Fruit & Flavorings
- 2 apples, diced
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp maple syrup or honey
Seeds & Toppings
- 2 tbsp chia seeds
- 2 tbsp ground flaxseed
- 2 tbsp pumpkin seeds
Instructions
- Simmer the milk: Pour the milk into a saucepan and heat it until it reaches a gentle simmer, being careful not to boil.
- Cook the oats: Stir in the rolled oats and a pinch of salt. Cook over medium heat for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oats begin to soften and thicken.
- Add apples and flavorings: Mix in the diced apples, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, and maple syrup or honey. Continue cooking for another 3 to 4 minutes until the apples soften slightly and the mixture is fragrant.
- Incorporate seeds: Stir in the chia seeds and ground flaxseed thoroughly, allowing the mixture to thicken further and the seeds to absorb liquid.
- Serve and garnish: Divide the oatmeal evenly into bowls and sprinkle the pumpkin seeds on top for a crunchy finish. Serve warm.
Notes
- Add chopped walnuts or pecans to the oatmeal for extra crunch and flavor.
- Using steel-cut oats can give a chewier texture; if using, increase the cooking time accordingly.
- Adjust sweetness by adding more or less maple syrup or honey based on preference.
